Pat Wotring's Bio

I have been teaching obedience for over 17 years. I participated in AKC obedience Trials and earned my CD, CDX, and Utility titles with my dog Nikki.

Two of my German Shepherds were members of TDI (Therapy Dog International). Nikki and I were honored to go to New York a few days after 9/11 to offer support and comfort to the people involved in the Twin Towers tragedy. Nikki received an award for her service from TDI. I have titled two German Shepherds in DOCNA, NADAC, and AKC agility.

I currently have two German Shepherds, Zena (10-1/2 years) and Storm (18 months old). Storm got her Star Puppy certification at the age of 17 weeks. She started puppy kindergarten shortly after she came home with me. She has also earned her CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certificate at 16 months. Storm has taken 2 beginner obedience classes at South Mountain Dog Training Center, as well as, Rally obedience. She is such a pleasure to work with.

Zena is my fun girl. She loves Frisbee, agility and long walks. Storm has started agility class and is excelling in it. I love working with dogs and their handlers. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the improvement in the dog/handler teams as they progress in the classes. The joy you get as a handler seeing your dog improve because of the effort and time you spend working with them is amazing. Also, the bond that forms between you and your dog as you work together as a team; whether in obedience, rally obedience, or agility is an wonderful thing to see. Hope to see you soon at South Mountain Dog Training enjoying training with your dog (old or new).

Tom Kozman's Bio

I started training at South Mountain with Sidney, our second Springer Spaniel, in 1995. He went through Beginner and Advanced obedience training. He was a wonderful companion dog.

In 2005 we changed breeds and found our boy Conaan, a Bullmastiff. Knowing how big he would become, we knew he would have to be well behaved! We picked him up on Friday and started Puppy Preschool the next Wednesday. We followed up with Beginner and Advanced obedience and he earned his CGC title, when he was 14 months. Since, completing his training, he is a show quality dog. We decided to try him in the conformation ring. It was a real learning experience. We found traveling with him was so much fun.

In 2008 we lost Sidney, Conaan was so devastated that we found him a little brother. Another Bullmastiff named Chaos! So Back to South Mountain we went, Preschool, Beginner, Advanced and a CGC title. Working with the dogs was so much fun, we started Agility Classes. Big dogs and little tunnels is something to see! Chaos took over in the show ring and is a champion.

We started Rally Obedience in 2010. Head trainer Pat Wotring asked if I wanted to be an apprentice trainer. So here we are, both dogs have their Rally Novice titles and we still take classes today. We travel and vacation with our dogs, and go to all the events we can.

As a trainer I enjoy seeing dogs grow, mature and build a bond that lasts a lifetime with their owners.

When I adopted 6 month old Willow, who was very shy and nervous around new people, back in 2011, I knew she needed a confidence boost and decided agility might be a good fit. Well after our first few classes we both had the agility bug and I have been training my dogs and competing ever since. Agility has also helped build my own confidence; I began to feel more at ease in situations unfamiliar to me and interacting with new people.

We compete in CPE in which Willow has earned C-ATCH2 and working on our C-ATE. We also compete in USDAA and AKC Master's level. Willow has also competed in the Ohio CPE Nationals.

My younger dog Fenway also enjoys agility and he is well on his way to a great future in it. He has also earned his C-ATCH in CPE, loves to do Lure Coursing, and enjoys Rally. Both of my dogs also have their CGCA and Willow has a CGCU.

I have been an assistant trainer here at South Mountain Dog Training since 2017 but have been coming to classes here with my own dogs for years prior. I love working with dogs and their families. It's been a wonderful journey so far and I look forward to helping others and having fun!

I have had dogs all my life. I got my first very own dog at 22 & made some mistakes, so when I got my second dog, I took her to obedience class, what a difference to learn how dogs think. Since then, all my dogs have attended Puppy, Beginner & Advanced classes. I also have taken Agility classes & competed in Agility competition.

I fell in love with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, after seeing them at a dog show and bought my first Show Dog in 1996. We attended all the basic obedience classes, she became a champion in the breed ring. Later, she won her first Agility title. She was also a Therapy dog. She was bred & is the foundation of most of the dogs you might see me with at South Mountain. I enjoy assisting with the Puppy and Beginner classes & continue to learn so much more helping people to train their dogs. I believe that every dog has the potential to be a Great Dog!

Lauren Shultz's Bio

I have been working with dogs for over ten years now and am thrilled to join the South Mountain Dog Training Center team! I began working with dogs as an AKC Junior Handler in Middle School & participated in Agility, Rally Obedience, Sheep Herding, Tracking, & Confirmation. My love of dogs led me to work at various dog kennels as a groomer, dog walker, and playroom attendant over the years.

I began training my Labrador Retriever, Stella, when I brought her home in 2020. We started with the Puppy Pre-School Class at South Mountain and went on to complete every single class that was available to us. Over the past year, Stella has earned her Rally Novice, Coursing Ability, BCAT, Canine Good Citizen, Trick Dog Intermediate, Virtual Home Manners Adult, and Virtual Scent Work Intermediate titles.

My passion for working with dogs led me to enroll in Animal Behavior College and as of March 2022, I have received my certification in dog training. I am always looking to learn more about dog training and recently became a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, as well as an approved AKC evaluator for S.T.A.R. Puppy, Canine Good Citizen, Community Canine, Urban, Temperament Test, Fit Dog: Level 1, and Fit Dog Level 2.

Dogs are truly incredible animals, and the bond you can create with them through training is like nothing else. I am truly honored to be able to make my dream of becoming a dog trainer reality.

  • Advance/Excellent Rally
  • Assists other Trainers, when needed

Krista Stayer's Bio

I started taking puppy training class at South Mountain in 2016, and I was hooked! With some encouragement, I started training my Australian Cattle Dog, Fred, in Rally & did my first show in 2017. Fred has his Novice, Advanced, & Excellent Rally titles. He is currently working on his Masters Rally title, as well as, holding his CGC & Novice Tricks titles.

I started teaching the Advance/Excellent Rally class in the beginning of 2020, and the best part is watching my students bond with their dogs &, for those who decide to show, to see them earn their titles. In the future I will also be assisting some of the other trainers when needed. I look forward to learning from them.

I have worked with animals of all species for over 20 years in my professional life. I have a menagerie of animals at home including; my 2 dogs, Fred & Slim Shady. Fred is my third ACD. He was a "Smothers Day" gift from my family in 2015, when my children started heading into their adult lives.

Training & teaching have helped me become a more outgoing and confidant person. I have met some of the most encouraging and kind people.

Jackie Woerle's Bio

My love of dogs started when I was very young. Growing up, we always had a dog in our home. I knew early on that it was important for our dogs to be well mannered & tried, in my own way, to make that happen. Later in life, I realized just how far you could go with continued training & the benefit of structured classes.

My first trainer was my inspiration & opened the door to all the different venues available for handlers & their dogs. I have titled in obedience, rally, agility, herding, breed, farm dog, CGC, CGCA & therapy dog.

I was an evaluator for therapy dogs for 8 years. Me & my Golden Retriever Indy served in NYC, after the 9/11 attacks to comfort the families of the victims.

I have had mixed breed dogs, purebreds, rescues & dogs from breeders. My heart settled on the Belgian Tervuren, as my breed of choice. Three of my Tervurens were regular blood donors & also therapy dogs.

My training experience started over 25 years ago in an assisting role & progressed into head trainer positions with South Mountain Dog Training Center & other dog training organizations.

I have instructed classes from puppy through advanced obedience. As I took pride in training all my own dogs over the years, I also enjoy helping others experience the satisfaction of bonding with their dog & reaching their goals
